Judges & Lawyers Night

Judges and Lawyers Night is an annual event where students, professionals, and members of the community network and socialize. It is also a night where we, the members of USC’s Latino Law Students Association, recognize esteemed members of our alumni network and community. Traditionally, two awards are given at Judges & Lawyers Night: The Judge Armendariz Award and the Inspirational Alumnus Award.

The Judge Armendariz Award is named for Alberto Armendariz ’50, the only Latino graduate of his class, who dedicated his legal career to civil rights. As a civil rights leader in the ’50s and ’60s, he served as the President of LULAC and a founder of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund. He lived by the mantra, “The Lord did not make you a lawyer to serve yourself. You have a duty to serve [others] and especially the oppressed group of people of which you are a member.”

The Inspirational Alumnus Award celebrates the achievements of a USC Gould graduate whose work embodies excellence in the legal field and a spirit of dedication to the Los Angeles community. This award is our way of saying “Thank You” for your work in the public interest and being an inspiration to current law students who are ready to make their own difference in the world.
